What did the Galileo spacecraft reveal about Jupiter’s lightning?

The Galileo spacecraft studied Jupiter’s atmosphere and revealed numerous large thunderstorms many times larger than those on Earth, with lightning strikes up to 1,000 times more powerful than Earth lightning. Galileo studied the planet’s clouds and winds and furthered scientists’ understanding of how Jupiter evolved. The same spacecraft also observed comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impact Jupiter. The comet struck Jupiter at 200,000 mph and exploded with a fireball 1,900 miles high. The impact left dark scars on Jupiter that were two or three times larger than the Earth.
